Blakk Rasta Returns Awards

Blakk Rasta made a bold move by returning dozens of music awards he’d won over the years. He’d lost faith in how winners were chosen, especially when it came to paid voting. This decision wasn’t taken lightly, considering his achievements, like winning ‘Best Reggae Song’ at the Ghana Music Awards in 2002.

Blakk Rasta’s doubts about the integrity of award platforms grew as he realized that artistes and fans had to spend money to influence results. He felt that this process stripped the awards of their true meaning. As a result, he decided to return about 40 awards to their respective organizers.

Blakk Rasta said, ‘All the awards that I had to vote for and pay money for, my spirit didn’t feel good carrying all these loads in my house.’ He made it clear that his decision wasn’t targeted at one organization but rather at the system as a whole. He even wrote to Charterhouse Ghana, but they didn’t respond.

Today, Blakk Rasta stands by his decision, stating he has no interest in participating in award schemes that require payment to vote. He’s kept only one award, which he received in London without any voting or financial input. This experience has shaped his stance on the value and authenticity of music awards.
