Gov’t to Suspend Some Taxes to Lower Fuel Prices

Ever feel like you’re paying way too much at the pump lately? President John Dramani Mahama just held an emergency meeting to tackle those rising costs. The government is stepping in to help us deal with the price hikes caused by the war in the Middle East.

They’ve decided to suspend some taxes and margins to bring prices down in the next pricing window. The finance and energy ministers are now working to make this happen. It’s a straightforward move to give everyone some relief.

Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu mentioned they’re staying “tight-lipped” about which specific taxes are being cut for now. He explained this is because the sector is “sensitive” and any announcement could be “volatile to the sector.”

There’s more coming, too. They’re deploying 100 new Metro Mass Transit buses to keep fares low on busy roads. Even the ministers are feeling the pinch, as their fuel allocations and allowances have been cancelled.
