Four of Ghana’s top amateur boxers are packing their bags for France as they gear up for the 2026 Commonwealth Games. The team from Bukom Boxing Gym will spend ten days training with Boxing Club Drouais starting April 16. It’s a strategic move to ensure the “Black Bombers” are battle-ready for the international stage in Glasgow.
This trip isn’t a random visit but the second half of a planned partnership between the two clubs. The relationship began in October 2025 when the French side traveled to Accra to share skills and experience. Coach Augustus Dodoo described the programme as a “structured partnership between the two clubs designed to deepen ties between Ghana and France through boxing.”

The selected squad includes Mathias Ashitey at 52kg, Emmanuel Attoh at 60kg, Precious Akai Nettey at 63kg, and James Armah at 64kg. By training against European competition, these athletes can sharpen their techniques before the Games begin on July 23. Coach Dodoo, known to many as “One Life,” has received backing from the National Sports Authority and the Ghana Boxing Federation.
The timing of this exchange is critical as the Ghana Boxing Federation works to rebuild its national squad. With stars like Samuel Takyi and Abu Kamoko moving into the professional ranks, the federation needs fresh talent to step up. This international exposure helps bridge the gap for the next generation of fighters.
Beyond the French exchange, the GBF is actively seeking more global partnerships to secure funding and technical support. This includes recent discussions with the Swiss Ambassador to strengthen the sport’s infrastructure in Ghana. These efforts show a determined push to keep Ghana competitive in the amateur boxing world.
