Wendy Shay Sets Her Sights on TGMA Artiste of the Year Win

Wendy Shay is making a bold play for the top honor at the 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards. The Afrobeat star has called on music lovers across the country to support her bid for the Artiste of the Year award. It’s a moment that could redefine her standing in the competitive Ghanaian music scene.

This nomination comes after a productive year for Shay, highlighted by the release of her album “Ready” and the success of her hit single “Too Late.” She isn’t just a nominee for the top prize; she’s secured six other nominations, including Album of the Year and Most Popular Song. These accolades reflect a steady climb in her career and a growing presence in the industry.

Taking to X, the singer expressed her confidence and gratitude to her supporters. She wrote, “I know everyone is aware this year’s TGMA Artiste of the Year is Me. Thanks to Ghana, SHAYGANG, media personalities and to all the Artistes showing me love and advocating for me to win.” She also reached out to rival fanbases, urging the fans of SM, Bhimnatives, Sark Nation, BYK, Blacko tribe, and others to vote for her.

Interestingly, some of her toughest competitors are backing her. Black Sherif, a fellow nominee, has publicly endorsed her, arguing that her hard work often goes unnoticed. During an interview with Kafui Dey on The Late Nite Celebrity Show, he noted that based on her impact, she is “really eligible” for the win.

Black Sherif’s support highlights a broader conversation about the recognition of women in the industry. He pointed to her 50m+ streams and the success of her album as proof that she deserves more visibility. By championing her, he’s calling for a shift in how the industry values the contributions of female artists.
