Alhaji Osman Masawud, known as Chairman Buga, suggests that the legal battles facing Bernard Antwi Boasiako are not coincidental. At the heart of the matter is a high-stakes race for the party’s national leadership.
Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman, has recently found himself in the crosshairs of the law. This comes at a time when he has openly expressed his desire to climb the party ladder and seek the national chairmanship. For many observers, the timing of these legal challenges raises questions about the motives behind the prosecution.
Chairman Buga hasn’t minced words about his perspective on the situation. He believes the ambition to lead the party is the primary trigger, stating, “The Ashanti Regional Chairman declared his intention to contest the National Chairmanship race of the New Patriotic Party, I think this is part of it, and this has made Wontumi a political prisoner.” He further argued that the law is being applied selectively, claiming, “NDC personalities are engaging in galamsey and nothing has been done about it.”
These accusations suggest a deep rift and a sense of injustice within the political landscape. If the legal actions are indeed tied to party ambitions, it could complicate the NPP’s internal democratic processes. Supporters of the Ashanti Regional Chairman seem unlikely to be deterred, regardless of the legal outcome.
Despite the current turmoil, Chairman Buga remains confident that the legal pressure won’t diminish Wontumi’s standing among the party faithful. He believes the controversy might even strengthen his resolve and his appeal to the grassroots. As he put it simply, “Wontumi will remain a hero.”
