Abusuapnin Tupac, the family head for the Ekuona Family, is speaking out against rumors regarding his leadership. For some time, reports have circulated on social media claiming he has been deposed from his position. He’s now breaking his silence to set the record straight about his status and the traditions governing his role.
The tension comes amid a period of public scrutiny and family disputes that have played out in the digital space. While many believed the reports of his removal, Tupac chose to remain quiet until recently. He eventually made a public appearance, dressed in traditional African print, to address the matter through the proper channels.
During a visit to Dadiesoaba Hene, a chief involved in the family’s funeral arrangements, Tupac dismissed the rumors as baseless. He emphasized that leadership changes in the Ashanti fraternity follow strict protocols. Tupac stated, “social media doesn’t kill a person, you understand?” and added, “There are traditions to everything. So, you don’t just go and sit somewhere and use unprintable words on another person.”
The attempt to resolve the dispute at the palace hit a snag when other immediate family members failed to attend the scheduled meeting. This absence has left the resolution in limbo, though the chief is expected to communicate a new date. Tupac remains firm that “in the Ashanti fraternity, we use traditions to do everything. A process has to be followed before an Abusuapanin could be destooled. And not just by sitting someone to run your mouth.”
This clash highlights the growing friction between ancient traditional customs and the fast-paced nature of social media. While the internet allows news to spread instantly, it often bypasses the formal processes required by indigenous leadership. For now, the Ekuona Family’s leadership remains a matter of tradition rather than a social media announcement.
