Afenyo-Markin: NDC Would Be Shocked in Today’s Election

If Ghana held a vote right this second, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin says the ruling NDC would be completely blindsided. He believes everyday voters are growing pretty tired of how things are going. As he put it on Metro TV, “They will be shocked if elections are held today.”

He warns that the government shouldn’t get too comfortable with its current standing. Looking at how politics works around the globe, leaders who ignore local needs usually pay the price. “The way world politics is going, if you don’t domesticate, you collapse,” he explained.

His biggest worry right now is who is actually getting those major government contracts. He pointed out that parliamentary records show the most profitable deals keep going to foreign firms instead of homegrown businesses. “The juiciest contracts are going to foreigners,” he noted, adding that local companies face way more scrutiny for their success.

He’s asking President Mahama to step in and make sure at least half of all future deals go to indigenous Ghanaian companies. To be clear, he isn’t trying to block outside investment, he just wants local businesses to stand on equal footing. If the country does well, everyone wins.
