Political tensions are rising as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) takes a hard look at how the New Patriotic Party (NPP) handles its legal troubles. Dr. Isaac Tuffour, a communicator for the NDC, recently shared his views on the matter during an appearance on Angel FM in Kumasi. He argues that the ruling party is shifting away from legal substance in favor of public sympathy.
This critique comes amid ongoing legal battles involving several members of the NPP. While the party often highlights its deep bench of legal experts and intellectuals, the NDC believes this expertise isn’t being used effectively in court. He stated, “At this point, the NPP has been reduced to emotional blackmail as their only strategy,” while questioning why a party with so many lawyers would rely on rhetoric. He further noted, “Those who tout themselves as having lots of lawyers and brains have ended up using emotional blackmail,” suggesting a gap between the party’s claims and its actions.
Beyond the legal arguments, Tuffour pointed to a recurring theme in the NPP’s messaging regarding the nature of political power. He mentioned that party figures often suggest that fortunes can shift, noting, “They keep on saying the tables will turn,” which he believes avoids the actual legal issues.
