Ghanaian actor, filmmaker, and activist Joseph van Vicker was born on August 1, 1977 and is more commonly known as Van Vicker. He is the CEO of the film production company Sky + Orange Production.
Early Life
Van Vicker was born to a Dutch father and a Ghanaian/Liberian mother. At the age of six, his father passed away.
In interviews, he has frequently stated that he perceives himself as a global citizen because his mother raised him all around the world.
Van Vicker has said that he is very close to his mother and sees her as his hero because of his father’s early demise.
Education
Like fellow actor Majid Michel, Van Vicker was a student at Mfantsipim School. In 2021, he received his degree from African University College of Communications.
Relationship
LaRika Van Vicker is the wife of Joseph Van Vicker.
In addition to two girls and a son from Van Vicker’s first marriage, they currently have five children: a daughter and son from their marriage.
On October 16, 2024, they celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary by giving thanks to God and complimenting his wife for being by his side no matter what.
Career
In the entertainment industry, Van Vicker began as a radio host at Groove 106.3 fm (1999–2000) and Vibe 91.9 fm (2001–2004).
He also worked as a television personality for TV3 Ghana (1997–1999) and Metro TV (2000–2004). Van Vicker was featured in the Ghanaian television series Suncity, which portrayed college life.
He portrayed LeRoy King Jr., a U.S.-born student of fine arts who comes to Sun City to finish his studies. There were ten episodes in the entire series.
Van Vicker was soon chosen to play a supporting role in his debut movie, Divine Love.
It just so happens that other performers Jackie Appiah and Majid Michel, who played the female and male leads, respectively, had their first parts in this movie.
Usually paired with actresses Jackie Appiah and Nadia Buari, Vicker plays the male romance lead. He is frequently likened to Nigerian Ramsey Nouah and fellow Ghanaian actor Majid Michel.
Together with well-known Nollywood performers Tonto Dikeh, Mercy Johnson, Stephanie Okereke, Chika Ike, and Jim Iyke, Van Vicker has starred in a number of Nollywood productions.
Heart of Fire, Popular King, Harvest of Love, Gambling with Marriage, Stolen Will, The Joy of a Prince, Discovered, The Kingdom, Against the Law, and My Soul Mate are some of his Nollywood productions.
Since 2008, Van Vicker’s Sky + Orange Productions has produced, directed, and appeared in five films.
His production company’s busiest year was 2012, when he won the NAFCA Best Actor and Director Awards for his comedy film Joni Waka.
Awards
From Africa to the Caribbean, Vicker has received multiple award nominations and wins. The Nollywood Academy Films Critics’ Awards, the ACRAG Awards, and the Ghana Movie Awards are among the honors.
His awards include Best African Caribbean Actor, Best Actor African American, and Pan African Creative Actor in 2009.
At the 2013 Papyrus Magazine Screen Actors Awards (PAMSAA), which took place in Abuja, Nigeria, he was named the Best International Actor.
