Fatal Training Crash at Algeria’s Jijel Ferhat Abbas Airport

At least four individuals lost their lives on Tuesday, august 6, 2025, when a civil protection surveillance aircraft crashed at the Jijel Ferhat Abbas Airport in Taher, northern Algeria. According to reports from Algerian civil protection authorities, the plane went down during a routine training mission within the airport’s perimeter.

Emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the site of the wreckage, but officials confirmed that all four crew members on board perished in the accident. While the specific cause of the crash has not yet been determined, the Ministry of Transport and aviation authorities have launched a formal investigation to identify any technical failures or pilot errors that may have led to the tragedy.

The airport, which serves the coastal province of Jijel, briefly suspended operations following the incident to allow forensic teams to clear the site.

This accident marks a somber moment for the national civil protection service, which relies heavily on these surveillance flights for forest fire monitoring and coastal safety operations in the mountainous northern region.
