Ghana’s Low Inflation: Will Global Fuel Prices Ruin It?

Ghana just hit a huge milestone with inflation dropping to a record low of 3.2%. It’s a massive win after prices peaked way back in 2022.

But there’s a catch. The World Bank warns that global fuel and food prices could jump because of tensions in the Middle East, which might push those numbers back up.

Since Ghana imports almost all its fuel, any global price hike hits the pump and food costs fast. Andrew Dabalen, Chief Economist for the Africa Region, urged governments to “protect the most vulnerable households in the short term while maintaining fiscal discipline.”

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson is still aiming for single-digit inflation through 2026. It’ll be a tough balancing act, but the country has some reserves to help.
