British police have initiated a manhunt following the discovery of two suitcases containing human remains on the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol. The incident began late Wednesday night when authorities were alerted to a man acting suspiciously on the bridge. ‘
Although the individual had vanished by the time officers arrived, they discovered the suitcases at the scene. Initial investigations indicate that the man traveled to the bridge via taxi, but an extensive search involving a helicopter and the coastguard failed to locate him.
Avon and Somerset Police have released a description and a photograph of the man they are seeking. He is described as a Black man with a beard, last seen wearing a black Adidas baseball cap, a black jacket, black jeans, black trainers with thick white soles, and a black backpack.
While a post-mortem examination is scheduled to determine the identity of the deceased and whether the remains belong to more than one person, police currently believe there is no ongoing risk to the general public.
The bridge’s visitor center was closed as high-visibility patrols were increased in the area to reassure the community. Local Member of Parliament Carla Denyer expressed that she was deeply disturbed by the horrifying discovery, noting how unsettling the event has been for the residents of Bristol. Police have stated that their immediate priorities are locating the suspect, identifying the victims, and notifying their families.
