Menzgold Saga Drags on as NAM1 Makes 36th Court Appearance Without Trial

The legal saga of Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM1, reached another stalemate as the CEO of Menzgold Ghana Limited made his 36th court appearance without a trial commencing.

On July 26, 2023, the Circuit Court adjourned the case once again to September 20, 2023, following a request from the police prosecution for more time to receive instructions from the Attorney General’s office.

The delay stems from the prosecution’s ongoing wait for “advice” on a significantly expanded case. While NAM1 was originally facing 13 counts, an amended charge sheet filed in September 2019 introduced 61 new charges. However, the defendant’s plea on these updated charges has yet to be taken because the docket remains under review at the Office of the Attorney General.

Presiding judge Her Honour Mrs. Evelyn Asamoah granted the adjournment after Police Prosecutor ASP Emmanuel Haligah confirmed that the state is still awaiting a formal response. This marked the latest in a long series of appearances, including six in the last eight months alone, leaving thousands of aggrieved Menzgold customers still waiting for a judicial resolution regarding their locked-up investments.
