Okyeame Kwame is celebrating his 50th birthday this April. Instead of just a party, he’s building a children’s emergency unit at Manhyia District Hospital in Kumasi. The project is his way of giving back while marking the milestone.
He says music remains his biggest source of joy and inspiration. He told Channel One TV, “I think that I have done a lot of things. I have lived abroad. I have washed dishes, I have had cars, I have worked in factories. I have been a teacher. I have written blogs. Out of all those things, the one that gives me the most satisfaction is music. When I am around musicians, when I am around music, it just keeps me alive. It keeps me the opportunity to imagine.”
Channel One TV will host a star‑studded tribute on April 18 at +233 Jazz Bar & Grill, starting at 9 p.m. Performers include Kwame Eugene, KiDi, King Paluta, Amerado, MzVee, Sista Afia, Afriyie Wutah, Kwabena Kwabena, Kweku Darlington, Abiana, Akwaboah, Abochi, Bradez, Ras Kuuku, Adina and Andy Dosty. Tickets cost GH¢1,500 for VVIP and GH¢1,000 for VIP, with all funds going to the new children’s emergency centre.
By turning his birthday into a fundraiser, Okyeame Kwame shows how art can drive real‑world change. The new unit will improve emergency care for kids in Kumasi and surrounding areas. Fans who attend the show will directly support that goal.
