Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, the founder of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), has announced a major public rally scheduled for the final week of November 2024 in Elmina. The event aims to intensify his long-standing campaign for the restoration of GN Bank, which had its license revoked during the government’s 2017 financial sector cleanup.
In a recent broadcast titled “Disappointed but Not Discouraged,” Dr. Nduom described the bank’s closure as a “needless” and “deeply damaging” act that had severe consequences for the national economy.
Economic Impact and Job Losses
A central theme of the upcoming rally is the human cost of the bank’s collapse. Dr. Nduom revealed that Group Nduom once supported approximately 70,000 direct jobs, a significant portion of which were lost following the banking sector reforms. He argued that the closure did not just affect the financial industry but dismantled a vital support system for thousands of Ghanaian families and small businesses across the country.
Advocacy for Financial Resilience
The rally in his hometown of Elmina is intended to serve as a platform for citizens to voice their concerns about unemployment and the current state of the banking sector. Dr. Nduom frequently uses his digital platforms to engage the public on issues of governance and economic stability, maintaining that reviving the bank is a necessary step toward restoring trust in indigenous Ghanaian businesses.
He urged supporters to stand with him in demanding a reversal of the decision to ensure a more inclusive and resilient financial landscape.
