Police Foil Robbery Attempt on Ejura–Nkoranza Highway

A planned ambush on the Ejura–Nkoranza highway was cut short on April 9, 2026, thanks to a timely police intervention. Officers managed to intercept a gang of six robbers who were waiting in the brush near Mimenaso No. 2 to target unsuspecting commuters. The encounter ended in a violent clash, leaving one suspect dead and the others on the run.

This operation wasn’t a random patrol but the result of specific intelligence gathered by the Ghana Police Service. By acting on these tips, officers were able to locate the group before they could strike their intended victims. It highlights a proactive approach to securing one of the region’s critical transit corridors.

The situation turned deadly when the gang, led by Mahamadu Fuseini (also known as Shaini), mistook the approaching officers for easy targets and opened fire. Police returned fire, fatally wounding one member of the group while Fuseini and his remaining accomplices escaped into the surrounding bush. At the scene, officers recovered a pump-action gun, several live cartridges, and three keypad mobile phones, along with a talisman found on the deceased.

While the immediate threat was neutralized, the escape of the gang leader and four other members remains a serious concern. The body of the fallen suspect has been moved to the Atebubu Government Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Police are now focusing their resources on tracking down the fugitives to prevent further attacks.

Highway robberies continue to be a challenge for security forces in the Ashanti Region, often requiring a mix of intelligence and rapid response. The recovery of weapons and communication devices provides the police with vital leads for their ongoing investigation. Ensuring the safety of commuters on the Ejura–Nkoranza route remains a top priority for the service.
