Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has introduced the e-Travel Card, a digital solution designed to regulate and track travel allowances for public officials on both domestic and international assignments.
This new system replaces the traditional cash-based method for distributing travel funds, which has historically been prone to risks such as fraud in imprest disbursement, physical theft, and inadequate oversight. By automating the process, the government aims to modernize public financial management and align it with global cashless payment standards.
The e-Travel Card is designed to ensure that per diems and imprests are automatically loaded onto the cards of public officials, ensuring better budgetary control and preventing overspending.
According to Dr. Bawumia, the platform will facilitate real-time monitoring of public funds, improve the speed and transparency of accountability reports, and ensure that accountable imprests are retired in a timely manner. This initiative represents a significant step toward total transparency and the elimination of financial loopholes within the public sector’s travel protocols.
